Eating and drinking

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

What is the difference between continental and full English breakfast?

Most of our rates advertised offer continental breakfast only, which includes hot beverages, cheese, ham, breakfast cereals, baker’s basket, chilled fruit juices, yoghurts and fresh preserved fruits and the chef’s hot dish of the day.

You can also order the Crown Full English for a supplementary charge which includes the above plus a cooked dish of your liking from the Breakfast menu.

The reason for the separation is that guests’ own requests indicated that we should offer a lighter, healthier breakfast option, but with greater choice; for this reason we generally no longer include the Full Cooked English breakfast in the default booking meal option. It also means that we can be more competitive with our prices offering you greater value without having to charge you for products or services you don’t want.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Is there a dress code for the dining?

There is no formal dress code for breakfast, casual should be fine, though we will refuse entry if you’re in your swimsuit or similar like pyjamas!

To help maintain the atmosphere in the Restaurant in the evening we have a dress code of smart casual gent’s shirt with a collar, no shorts or football type tops.

For those who would prefer a less formal atmosphere for evening dining then the small dining area called Taste 4 is available, with a sports channel on the TV.

Cancellation and modification policy

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Cancellation or modification of my booking?

If you booked online or telephone via an agent such as booking.com or lateRooms.com

The easiest way to find the modification and cancellation policy for the hotel room you’ve reserved is to consult your confirmation email sent from the agent; this is often done online via their own website. Since, you have not booked with us directly we cannot alter or make changes to the booking only you can do this. If you have used an agent both ourselves and yourself are contractually bound by the agent’s cancellation and modification rules. We cannot changes these no matter what the agent representative may say or imply on the telephone.

If you were more fortunate and too the advantage and booked directly with ourselves

If you booked directly online with the hotel website your cancellation and modification details will be on the booking confirmation sent to you via email, fax or post. You can then either cancel or modify via our online booking system or call the reception desk on 441723357400.

The cancellation terms are sent to you with your confirmation details, if no specific cancellation policy is assigned then our default cancellation policy is in force. Our cancellation terms are here http://www.crownspahotel.com/pages/footer/Terms_Conditions

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Why have cancellation fees?

It is not the case that because of the cancellation “no service was given” therefore no payment is due by the guest. The real issue is that we have held a room for you, we will most likely not be able to resell the room – the rooms we sell help keep our team in employment and enable us to pay our suppliers – therefore the cancellation fee and the existence of a contractual agreement including terms of trade between both the Hotel and the guest are necessary.

So if you do need to cancel your booking do consider if you are also within the time scope to modify the booking. As soon as you are aware of the change in circumstances, act positively via the online system you originally booked with, if you booked with the hotel by phone do this as soon as you can on 441723357400.

Often you will find that you can reclaim the cancellation fee through your travel insurance, home insurance or Credit Card Company. We always recommend that you have travel insurance, even when travelling within the UK as it can cover you for accidents and injury and subsequent loss of earnings where other insurances you have often do not!

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Why are prices for Advanced Purchase, Last Minute and other rates so different?

For the same type room, on the same day, same number and type of occupants, same terms (e.g. Room only) the rooms rates may be different.

Simply this is due to the cancellation risk with a booking versus the price of the room. The better deals we can do are generally Advanced Purchase rates; in order to offer a competitive rate the cancellation terms are much stricter; so essentially the better rates have a trade-off against the cancellation terms strictness.

With Other Rates (any rates other than Advanced Purchase and Last Minute) the cancellation terms are less strict, even though these rates are available when Advanced Purchase and Last Minute rates are, and can allow you (depending on the deal) to cancel or modify the booking dates as little as 72hours before arrival, obviously this incurs greater risk for the Hotel so is reflected in the rate.

Our last-minute rates have a strict cancellation policy (as we are offering rooms up to and including the day of arrival) and rates can often be higher than Advanced Purchase rates, just like “in-life” our purchase decisions are a trade off against know certainties and expectations for all parties.

To generally get the best rates we recommend booking direct using our Advanced Purchase rates on our website.

To get more flexible cancellation terms in your booking use Other Rates (any rates other than Advanced Purchase and Last Minute).

What are the most asked questions by guests during their stay with you?

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Where is the Spa?

The Spa is located on the lower ground floor. To get there, please take the steps down on the left hand side of the main stairway in reception.

Times All times are available on your charge cards which you should have been provided with when checking in.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

How to get to town from the Crown Spa Hotel?

Depending on your mobility, we can suggest two options. The first option is to walk out the front door of the Crown Spa Hotel and turn left. Here will be a hill downwards towards the Spa Bridge, just walk in a straight line and you will be in town. Although this is wheelchair accessible, some people may struggle on the way back to the hotel due to the gradient of the hill and also on the way down this hill.

Another option is to cross Valley Bridge, which although a slightly longer walk is easier. Walk outside the Crown and turn left, follow the road around the corner and start walking straight ahead. Keep walking until you see some traffic lights, cross at these traffic lights and walk across the bridge, keep walking straight until you see a car park on your right, walk past this and then take your next right.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

What restaurants are there in town?

There are many restaurants available in Scarborough, a selection of them include Mexican, Italian, Turkish, Chinese, Thai, Greek and Spanish. If you are looking for one in particular, you can ask our receptionists what they would recommend personally.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Wi-Fi, is it free and how do I connect?

Wi-Fi in the hotel is free for any guest staying (2 hours free per 24 hours). Or free (24/7) if you have booked a qualifying package on our website. When checking in please login to the Wi-Fi network, which will give you all the directions you need to add the device you wish to use online.

Please be aware that due to the amount of guests within the hotel, the download and upload speed may fluctuate during peak times, in busy times we have upwards of 225 guests in the building.

For the more technical – The Hotel has a leased internet line running at 100Mbps up and down along with 4 BT infinity lines for high peak load assistance, along with 70 Wi-Fi access points running at 1Gbps on CAT6 cabling throughout with enterprise grade switches and routers.

However, this all sits within a 170 year old building which is grade 2 listed, it has very thick walls (some 2 feet thick!) and steel – so if you do have a weak signal somewhere do let our team know so that we can add the area for our regular Wi-Fi signal testing procedure and then hopefully deal with the problem area for future guests.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Is there a menu for the restaurant?

Yes a menu is available online before your stay, or on a menu board outside our restaurant, please check the facilities page.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Where is the nearest shop and cash machine?

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

You can also follow our Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/CrownSpaHotel ) and Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/CrownSpaHotel ) accounts which list events. If you don’t have access to this website during your stay, our receptionists will be able to provide some information if you wish.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

If you don’t have access to these websites, please ask our friendly Reception staff who will be more than happy to find times for the local area.

Taste Restaurant – Ground Floor – is floor 0 in the lift
