David Chambers - Operations Director

Originally from the small mining village of Edlington near Doncaster, my desire to become a chef brought me to Scarborough in 1978. After serving as an apprentice in various establishments in the town and attaining my City and Guilds in food preparation I became the Head Chef at the Ambassador Hotel. At age 23 I became a lecturer in food preparation at what is now Yorkshire Coast College. In 1988 I felt that it was time to widen my horizons and took the position as Chef Tournant at Palmetto Bay Hotel, Flatts Village in Bermuda. After a year of sub tropical weather I found the winter in Bermuda a little mild so headed to the Caribbean and the island of Grand Cayman where I became the Head Chef at the Periwinkle Restaurant after running the Restaurant very successfully for 3 years I opened up The Lighthouse at Breakers which went on to become one of the top restaurants on the island. During my time at the Lighthouse I served as Vice Conseiller Culinaire with the Chaine Des Rottiseurs and played an active part as the Vice President of the Cayman Islands Culinary Society. Returning to the UK in December 1998 I worked as Head Chef in a couple of local hotels as well as New Hall In Sutton Colefield and Rhinefield House, Brockenhurst in the new forest. In early 2001 I had done a full circle and returned to the Ambassador Hotel as Head Chef, The Hotel was at that time owned by Mr Richard Frank also the owner of the Crown Spa Hotel. I have now been with the company for many years in which time my job role has changed from Executive Head Chef to Operations Manager; a position I enjoy immensely, working as part of a team working towards a common goal, thats how we achieved our goal to become Scarboroughs first four star hotel.

Outside of work, I am a volunteer mentor for the Princes Trust, which I thoroughly enjoy and find very rewarding. My interests are varied. I enjoy going for a ride on my motorbike, to chill out after a hard day at the office; and I am passionate about Manchester United FC.
