The ornithology section of the Scarborough Collections is the subject of the next store tour, which will take place on Tuesday 30 April.
Led by Scarborough Museums Trust Vistor Services Assistant and keen birder Jim Middleton, the tour is entitled ‘Eggs, Extinctions and Endlings’.
“We’ll be looking through the ornithological collections at some tragic losses, both locally and globally, and what we can learn from these,” says Jim.
The Scarborough Collections is the name given to all the items accumulated by the Borough over the years, now in the care of Scarborough Museums Trust. Since it’s not possible to have all the thousands of items in the Collections on display at any one time, the public are welcome to visit and view them – and the easiest way to do that is by joining one of the regular and popular store tours.
They take place on the last Tuesday of each month, and last around an hour. Participants are asked to meet at Scarborough Art Gallery at 2pm before heading next door to Woodend Creative Workspace, where the Collections are housed in modern storage facilities in the basement.
Places on the tour cost £2 each, and are limited, so booking is recommended. To book, or for further information, please call the Art Gallery on 01723 374753.
